When שלום עליכם came to visit in a certain city, he was welcomed by thousands of admirers. Among them was a lawyer, who kept his hands in his pockets even while speaking with the famous guest. Addressing him, שלום עליכם said: “You are worthy of my blessing a שהחיינו.” Not understanding, the lawyer asked him to explain. “This is the first time in my life,” said שלום עליכם, “that I’ve seen a lawyer with his hands in his own pockets.”
