A woman went to consult with a רב at a gathering of רבנים. She first spoke with an אשכנזי רב, who was חרדי and not only didn’t look at her face, but also spoke to her harshly. She then turned to a ספרדי רב, who turned his face to her and spoke gently. The woman asked him: “Both of you are רבנים and you have one תורה, why is your approach so different?” The ספרדי רב answered: “He’s a רב and I’m a חכם.”
