The long time בעל-קורא of a city had gotten old and his voice became weak. The מתפללים were complaining that they couldn’t hear him and asked that he be replaced. His family protested to רבי אייזל חריף that the בעל-קורא had the position for forty years. He had a חזקה and it wouldn’t be proper to replace him. The רבי responded: “I’m surprised. You’re all learned people and you don’t remember what we learned in the גמרא, namely that חזקה בלי קול אינה חזקה.”
