A תלמיד asked: “רבי, in ירושלמי קידושין we are told that a master who has an עבד but only one pillow is חייב to give it to the עבד. Why is it that the עבד gets the pillow instead of the master?” The רבי answered: “If a person can’t afford to buy a second pillow, how can he afford to buy a slave? If that is his priority, let him sleep on the floor.”
