A man’s father died and he made sure to say קדיש every day for eleven months. Shortly thereafter, his mother died. However, he didn’t say קדיש for her even once. He was told: Just as you are חייב to honor the memory of your father, so are you חייב to honor the memory of your mother. “I don’t want to ruin the effort I put in over eleven months on behalf of my father to get him into גן עדן,” the man explained. “Now, if my קדיש helps to get my mother there as well, it will become גהינום for my father.”
