A חסיד went to his רבי and asked that he bless him with health. The רבי said: “May you be a שוטה all of your life.” Surprised and offended, the חסיד asked why the רבי would wish such a thing on him. The רבי said: “Our חכמים have said שוטה אינו מרגיש.” Not understanding what the רבי meant, the חסיד asked the גבאי to explain. The גבאי asked him: “Do you feel your liver?” The חסיד of course answered no. He then asked: “Do you feel your spleen?” Of course, the answer was no. The גבאי then said: “You see, as long as you don’t feel them, you’re in good health. It’s like חז״ל say: שוטה אינו מרגיש.”
