A חסיד would drink two glasses of liquor every morning after שחרית. “That’s a strange custom,” his friend remarked. He replied: “I do it להרחיק עצמי מדבר שקר. If someone asks me if I’ve already prayed, I don’t know what to answer. If I say I prayed, it may be a דבר שקר, since I’m not sure if my תפילה is worthy of being called תפילה. And if I say that I didn’t pray, that would also be שקר. But if I respond that I’ve already had two glasses of liquor, I’m פטור from answering.” His friend responded: “Why don’t you just have one glass?” The חסיד answered: “על פי שנים עדים יקום דבר.” “If so,” his friend asked, “why don’t you just drink two small glasses?” The חסיד replied: “Don’t you know, קטן פסול לעדות.”
