When expensive items were stolen from the רב of a town, he called for the “רבי” of the town’s גנבים and requested his assistance in recovering them. “If the items were stolen by one of my חסידים,” the גנב said, “they will be recovered. But if they were stolen by one of your חסידים, I’m afraid you may never see them again.”
