ברכות- טו

In the early 20th century, a שליח from ארץ ישראל told a צדיק in Europe how Jews were working the fields and building the future. The צדיק responded that it’s the בני עשו and not the בני יעקב who are supposed to work the fields. “הרי נאמר בפירוש: ונתתי עשב בשדך, דהיינו שבני עשו ולא בני יעקב יעבדו בשדה.” The שליח replied: “But עשב is spelled with a ב and עשו is spelled with a ו.” The צדיק looked at him disapprovingly. “It’s clear that you’re from the בעלי דקדוק and סתם בעל-דקדוק אפיקורס.”
