ברכות-יא

After a wealthy Jew who was מזלזל במצוות was given an עליה and said the ברכה ׳אשר בחר בנו מכל העמים ונתן לנו את תורתו׳, the רב was asked whether it was a ברכה לבטלה. “No,” he responded. “He said it with כוונה, because if the Torah had been given to the גויים, he would have felt the need to observe every detail in order to copy the ways of the גויים. But because the Torah was given to the Jews, he is thankful that he can do as he likes and not feel bound to be מקיים the מצוות.”
