An עם הערץ served as the בעל תפילה for מנחה. One of the מתפללים observed: “In מסכת שבת, we learn that the אנשי כנסת הגדולה were מתקן that קדיש be said in ארמית so that the מלאכים won’t understand and won’t be jealous. But if they knew that this עם הערץ would be the בעל תפילה, they wouldn’t have bothered to make this תקנה, since the מלאכים wouldn’t be able to understand his לשון קודש either.”
