A ליצן was asked why there are רבנים who have hernias. He explained: “The תורה says כי השוחד יעוור, bribery causes blindness. And the חכמים say פסיעה גסה נוטלת אחד מת״ק ממאור עניו של אדם. So if a רב loses sight, it’s uncertain what caused it, שוחד or פסיעה גסה. What does הקדוש ברוך הוא do? He gives him a hernia so that he can’t take פסיעות גסות, thus revealing to all that his loss of sight is attributable to שוחד.“
