When the מלבי״ם served as the רב in Koenigsberg, there were two other רבנים, one מקיל and the other מחמיר. When the nine days from ראש חודש אב arrived, the מקיל רב permitted eating chickens and hens, causing a big מחלוקת with the מחמיר רב, who argued that this could lead to eating of meat of a בהמה. The dispute got out of hand and ultimately reached the מלבי״ם, who observed: אתרנגולא ותרנגולה חרבה טור מלכא.”
