A villager came to a רב and told him that all the other Jews had moved from his village and he is the sole remaining Jew.  “How am I supposed to be מקיים תורה ותלמוד תורה?” he asked.  The רב answered: “רבי חנינא בן תרדיון said that even if one person is עוסק בתורה, the רבונו של עולם קובע לו שכר.”  The villager responded that he only knows a bit of גמרא, so he studies it over and over, but can’t progress any further.  The רב assured him that רבי חנינא בן תרדיון based his principle on ישב בדד וידום.  What is בדד, he asked. “I believe it stands for what חז״ל said is the small פרשה that the entire תורה is dependent upon: ב׳כל ד׳רכיך ד׳עהו, whose pneumonic is בדד.”
