The מלבי״ם used to speak out against מחללי שבת. When asked why the מחללי שבת often live long lives, he explained that שבת is a gift to בני ישראל from the רבונו של עולם and the מחללי שבת who reject this gift apparently are beneficiaries of שונא מתנות יחיה.
