יבמות לה

During World War I, a prominent member of the קהילה came to the רב of the town and broke down crying.  Several days earlier, when the German troops entered the town an אסון occurred to his daughter the בתולה.  The רב shared in his pain and wrote in his notebook “פלונית בת פלוני אנוסה היא.”  Imagine the רב’s surprise when three months later the אנוסה gave birth to a son.  The רב asked the father whether סדרי בראשית נשתנו for his daughter so that she gave birth after three months.  With a look of complete innocence, the father responded: “רבי, are you asking me to figure out the technique of the Germans?”
