A בחור applied for admission to the ישיבה of the בעל שאגת אריה.  After testing the boy in one of the סוגיות of ש״ס, and finding that he is a total עם הארץ, the רב asked: “Where did you eat until now?”  “What?  Where did I eat?” the boy said in wonderment.  “Why didn’t the רבי ask ‘where did you learn?'”  The רבי explained: ״שאכלת, זאת יודע אני בוודאות.  אבל אם למדת, ספק הוא בעיני.  ובידוע שאין ספק מוציא מיד ודאי.”
