When Barry Gutman’s beloved dog died, he went to the רב and told him how much the dog meant to him.  “Rabbi, I would like you to say a תפילה for his נשמה.”  The רב expressed his regrets, but said he couldn’t say a תפילה in memory of a dog. “There is a Reform temple nearby.  I suggest you have them do it,” the רב said.  “Okay, Rabbi, I’ll have them do it,” Barry replied.  “Do you think a $10,000 donation to the temple will be sufficient?”  The רב answered:  “Why didn’t you tell me that the dog was Orthodox?”
