A Lubavitcher חסיד related to a מתנגד how the בעל התניא was freed from prison.  “A General came to see the רבי and as he nodded in greeting his neck became stiff and he couldn’t lift his head.  He pleaded with the רבי, but he just ignored him until the General promised he would release him from prison.  Immediately, his neck returned to normal.”   The מתנגד said: “I heard that the General was paid off and that’s why he freed the רבי.”  “You’re such a cynic,” the חסיד replied.  “I’m telling you what happened בדרך הטבע and you’re trying to explain it as מעשה נסים.”
