יומא-כח

It is well known that we are not permitted to place בשר and חלב on a table at the same time. This is a גזירה because we might mistakenly come to eat them together. However, if there is a שומר standing and watching it, we are not concerned. We see this from אברהם אבינו. The פסוק says: ויקח חמאה וחלב ובן הבקר אשר עשה ויתן לפניהם והוא עומד עליהם. Since he gave them בשר וחלב, he needed לעמוד עליהם. This exemplifies the statement in today’s דף that קיים אברהם אבינו עליו השלום כל התורה אפילו עירובי תבשילים. The concern for עירובי תבשילין which אברהם places before the מלאכים caused him to stand over them while they were eating.
