Two men went to a רב to judge their dispute. While the plaintiff was preparing his presentation, he saw the defendant and the רב conferring and suspected that the fix was in. When the defendant rose to speak, the רב said: “I assume you claim להד״ם.” Immediately, the plaintiff called out “I also claim להד״ם.” Surprised, the רב asked what he meant by that. The plaintiff responded: “רבי, he claims להד״ם, meaning לא היה דברים מעולם. And I claim להד״ם, meaning, as stated in ישעיה, that למדו היטב, דרשו משפט.”
