A קהילה in Romania sent שליחים to find them a רב. The שליחים returned, reporting that they found a רב who has many fine qualities and just one חיסרון: he’s מאריך בתפילה, particularly when he says שמונה עשרה and קריאת שמע. Until he says עושה שלום במרומיו or ה׳ אלקיכם אמת, the נשמה can go out. The קהילה was debating whether to reject him and had difficulty coming to agreement until one man stood up and said: “As far as שמונה עשרה goes, we can manage to wait for the רב to finish, since there’s a limit to how long he can remain standing on his feet. But I don’t think we will be able to wait for the רב to finish קריאת שמע, since who knows how many hours or even years it will take the רב to get to אמת.”
