The אמרי אמת of גור had a custom that whenever he said ברכת המזון, his brother, ר׳ משה בצלאל, would hand him the כוס. Once, when his brother wasn’t present, one of the חסידים who wasn’t a בן תורה took the כוס and handed it to the רבי. After ברכת המזון, the רבי quoted from today’s דף, which says with reference to the period after the חורבן הבית that הרוצה לנסך יין על גבי המזבח ימלא גרונם של תלמידי חכמים יין. “Why,” the רבי asked, “doesn’t it say that one who wants לנסך יין should study the laws of נסכים, as it does with respect to one who studies the laws of חטאת being כאילו הקריב חטאת?” The רבי answered his question, stating: “Apparently, חז״ל wanted to leave something להקריב by even those who don’t know to learn.”
