When ר׳ אייזל חריף took ill, the doctor who examined him said: אין עצה לנגד חרבו השלופה של מלאך המוות Several days later, the doctor and רבי אייזל met on a street in Vilna. Surprised, the doctor said “It’s a miracle. השם has performed a miracle for you.” רבי אייזל replied: “No. You are mistaken. I died and there was no miracle for me. Rather, a נס was performed for you. When I died and went up to heaven, I heard a גזירה being decreed that כל הרופאים לגהינום. That included you, until I testified before the Heavenly Court that you’re no doctor and you were therefore excluded from the גזירה.”
