At a פורים party one year, ר׳ מאיר שפירא said that it’s a mistake to say that המן wanted to harm us.  He was only looking to give us another holiday.  He told אחשורוש that ישנו עם אחד…ודתיהם שונות מכל עם.  They are different because all of the holidays that they celebrate come מכל עם, who decree גזירות against them and in the end, after they overcome those seeking to harm them, they celebrate with a new holiday.  They have פסח from פרעה; they have חנוכה from אנטיוכוס; and so on.  But they don’t have a holiday from you, אחשורוש.  Therefore, אם על המלך טוב יכתב לאבדם, and then when they survive, the Jews will celebrate a holiday from you.  חג פורים שמח.
