R’ פנחס הגר מבארשא said one פורים that when the Jews of שושן saw from afar a man in royal clothing sitting on a horse being led by another man also dressed in royal clothing, they couldn’t determine whether it was מרדכי sitting and המן leading him or the reverse. But when they saw that the man sitting on the horse had a פתיל תכלת בציצית, they were overcome with joy. As the מגילה says: שושנת יעקב צהלה ושמחה בראותם יחד תכלת מרדכי.
