A well known מגיד came to a shtetl and gave a two hour long דרשה on שבת afternoon. The entire town came to hear him, including an אפיקורס, who figured if everyone else is going, he’ll go as well. The following day, the מגיד and the אפיקורס happened to meet. “I hope you enjoyed my דרשה,” the מגיד said. “Of course,” the אפיקורס replied. “Unfortunately, however, I couldn’t sleep the whole night afterwards.” Surprised, the מגיד asked what it was in his דרשה that made such a great impression on him. “Oh, no, that’s not what I meant,” said the אפיקורס. “I couldn’t sleep because if I sleep by day, I can’t sleep at night.”
