A רב went to a tailor to have a new suit made. “I must have it in a week,“ he said. “I have a wedding to go to.” The tailor assured him it would be ready. But the רב being skeptical, asked “Are you sure?” The tailor said “I give you my word.” When the רב persisted and asked a third time, the tailor said: “I stand by my word. This isn’t גמרא, where the אמוראים speak, רש״י makes the material understandable, and the מדרש brings it down to the masses. In my shop, I say what I’m going to do, I make the suit, and I bring it like I promised.”
