A מגיד who came to speak in a small town booked a room in an inn, but had to share it with another traveler. Exhausted from a long day of travel and speaking to the ציבור, he went to bed dying to sleep. Unfortunately, his roommate had other ideas. He said תהילים until early morning, not letting the מגיד sleep. Finally, the מגיד said to him: “I had always wondered why people say קשה שוטה מרשע. Why it’s the opposite of what עקביא בן מהללאל said: מוטב לי להיקרא שוטה כל ימי, ולא ליעשות שעה אחת רשע. Now I see that it is the common folk who are correct. No רשע would ever stay up all night saying תהילים and not let a tired man sleep.”
