A businessman once said to רבי אייזל חריף, “I have a son-in-law whom I support so that he should be able devote all of his time to learn תורה. But I heard from a מגיד that the זוהר הקדוש writes that כל הקורא קריאת שמע שחרית וערבית מעלה עליו הכתוב כאילו קיים ׳והגית בו יומם ולילה. If so, why do I have to work so hard to support my son-in-law so that he can learn יומם ולילה, he can simply say קריאת שמע שחרית וערבית and the rest of the day earn a living?” רבי אייזל חריף responded: “Yes, כל הקורא קריאת שמע שחרית וערבית it’s כאילו, as if, he learned day and night. But his שכר will also be כאילו גן עדן. Now, you tell me as an experienced businessman, would you accept for your merchandise, כאילו שכר?”
