When a couple gets married, the חתן says הרי את מקודשת לי כדת משה וישראל. A רב was asked why do we דוקה mention משה וישראל? He responded: “משה וישראל, as is well known, wandered in the desert for fourty years, and in the course of all those years there were times when they had their differences, arguments, and difficult moments, but they stuck it through and always remained together. That is the מוסר השכל that the couple must bear in mind at the time of קידושין.”
