A ישיבה בחור in pre-war Europe who ate his meals at the home of a local בעל הבית, complained to his friend that every day his meal consists of קושיות, which in Yiddish refers to קאשע. His friend countered: “You’re doing better than me. You’re getting קושיות, but all I get is תירוצים. In the morning, they dismiss me with the תירוץ that the house isn’t מסודר yet. In the afternoon, they get rid of me with the תירוץ that they need to mop the floor; and in the evening, they say it’s late.”
