A Jew who had been robbed of all his wealth was approached by a “גבור” who asked what he would give him if he recovered his money and valuables. The Jew offered him ten percent. When the גבור rejected the offer, the Jew offered to split any recovery 50/50. The גבור refused this as well. Having no alternative, the Jew said: “Do whatever you can and just give me whatever you like.” The גבור agreed and drafted a contract which they both signed. He then pursued the robbers and recovered the cash and valuables but refused to give the Jew more than a pittance. The Jew sued. The Judge reviewed the contract and ruled that the גבור must abide by its terms which provided that the Jew be given all that the גבור likes.
