A תלמיד חכם קטלן married a woman and she died. He married a second woman and she also died. He married a third time and that wife also died. Finally, he too died. מיכאל opened the gates of גן עדן for him and told him that he had three wives on earth and now can choose which one of them will be his wife for eternity. The תלמיד חכם said he chooses the first one. The מלאך מיכאל was surprised. “Why do you choose the first one? She’s old. You’re third wife is young.” The תלמיד חכם responded: “Even though you are a שר גדול, you don’t fully understand the ways of the world. אשה, יותר שהיא קבורה באדמה, יותר היא משביחה.”
