An author of a ספר that had all kinds of פלפולים concerning קל וחומר, brought it to רבי מנשה מאיליה for his review. The רב invited him to stay for a meal. When soup was served, the guest saw that his place setting had a fork but no spoon. רב מנשה asked why he wasn’t eating. The guest gestured to the fork. The רב sighed and said “What’s the problem with eating your soup with a fork? It’s a קל וחומר. If fish, which are eaten with a fork can also be eaten with a spoon, then soup, which is eaten with a spoon, isn’t it plain that it can also be eaten with a fork?”
