The students in the third grade class were very bright and inquisitive. One of them asked the רבי, “Is it true that the children of Israel crossed the sea on their way to Har Sinai?”  Of course, said the רבי. “And is it true that the children of Israel said ‘naaseh v’nishmah’ at Har Sinai?”  Sure, said the רבי.  “And is it also true that the children of Israel wandered in the desert for forty years?” Absolutely, the רבי answered.  “But why do you ask these questions, when the Torah tells us that these things all happened?”  The boy replied: “I have no doubt they happened.  I just wanted to know what the grown-ups were doing all this time.”
