A well known מאמר חז״ל teaches that בשכר נשים צדקניות שהיו באותו דור נגאלו ישראל ממצרים. A רב explained: “We know that בני ישראל were supposed to be enslaved in מצרים for 400 years and instead we were slaves for only 210 years. The women of that era prayed to ה׳ to end the שעבוד and take בני ישראל out of מצרים. The רבונו של עולם, however, rejected their request and told them the גזירה could not be changed. But the נשים צדקניות did not give up. They responded: ‘If you free us now, we will make up the time every year in the future slaving to get our houses and families ready for פסח.’”
