In the early days of מדינת ישראל, when censorship of newspaper articles was real common, a reader remarked: “During the British Mandate, when a newspaper article was censored, it was forbidden to leave a white space in place of the words that had been deleted. Therefore, editors would place an advertisement in that portion of the articles, indicating to readers that there was a deletion. But now, under Israeli rule, which permits the white space, there are times that an article consists of the title only. This is like the הגדה says: פרעה לא גזר אלא על הזכרים בלבד ולבן ביקש לעקור את הכל.”
