A כהן עם הערץ was once asked: “When you go up to דוכן, do you understand the meaning of the words in the ברכה?” “Of course!” he answered. “Well, what for example does the word ויחונך mean?” he was asked. After thinking for a moment, he said “It comes from the word חניקה, choking.” Surprised, the questioner said “That means that instead of blessing us, you’re cursing us.” “Heaven forbid,” the כהן answered. “When I say ויחונך, I have the גויים in mind.”
