A boy once asked his father why it is that before פסח special collections are made for the poor, including מעות חטים and קמחא דפסחא, but there are no special collections for עניים before סוכות? His father answered: “The תורה commands in reference to פסח that שבעת ימים תאכלו מצות. But in reference to סוכות it merely says בסוכות תשבו שבעת ימים, making no mention of אכילה.”
