It is not unusual for a רב to suffer aggravation from members of his קהילה. One רב had to deal with a Shul President who was very wealthy and had made large donations to the Shul, but was extremely arrogant and inconsiderate and made life miserable for the רב. Among other things, he would always demand that the רב write his speeches. However, no matter what the רב wrote, he would always find something negative to say. Finally, the רב decided not to put up with this any longer. He accepted a position with another Shul. Even so, the President insisted that the רב write for him the speech he would deliver at the farewell dinner. The רב tried to beg off but the President insisted. So he wrote the speech and handed it to the President, who said he’ll look at it when he has time. However, he didn’t do so before standing up at the dinner to address the Congregation. He took the microphone and read matter of factly until he got to the closing and said: “And I have solved the problem of how to stop anti-Semitism in this country. I have evolved 10 methods that are sure fire for all of us to follow.“ He turned the page and on the last page the רב had written: “OK, big shot, now you’re on your own!”
