Rebbi אייזל חריף once approached a man who was always getting into arguments with others and asked him why he always sought to be involved in a מחלוקת.   “What?” he responded.  “I have no interest in מחלוקות.  My intentions are לשם שמים.  I seek to assure יושר and צדק.”   Smiling, רבי אייזל said: “I suggest you look at חד גדיא.  It follows a pattern.  The גדי is completely innocent; the שונרא is guilty of eating the גדי.  You know, רבי איצ׳לי מוולוז׳ין was מקפיד with how he spoke about others.  Once, when someone inquired about doing business with a community member, the רבי wanted to indicate that the man isn’t truthful and that dog is innocent because he’s fighting for justice; the חוטרא is guilty of beating the dog.  The pattern repeats itself.  Accordingly, the מלאך-המות is completely innocent.  If so, what does the רבונו של עולם want from him?  The answer is that the מלאך-המות is being told אל תבקש יושר ואל תרד לחייהם של בני אדם.”
