עבודה זרה יב

A חבורה was studying the פרשת השבוע, when they got to the פסוק which says ויתרוצצו הבנים בקרבה.  They read רש״י, who says ויתרוצצו לשון ריצה.  כשהיתה עוברת על פתחי תורה של שם ועבר, יעקב רץ ומפרכס לצאת; עוברת על פתחי עבודה זרה, עשו מפרכס לצאת.”   One of the חבורה asked: “If עשו was so eager to get out to worship עבודה זרה, why didn’t he go out?  I understand that יעקב couldn’t get out because עשו was blocking his way.  But what kept עשו from getting out?”  No one could answer the question, until a six year old child who eventually became the רב of קישינב explained: “עשו could have easily gotten out.  But he knew that if he did so, it would open the way for יעקב to go learn תורה.   And that he wasn’t prepared to do.”
