Hyman, a Reform Jew from Germany moved to Vilna.  He was רע לבריות ורע למקום.  Ultimately, he became a מומר.  Once, a member of the קהילה saw him on the street and said שלום מר המן.  The מומר got angry and said:  “My name is הימן not המן.”  The קהילה member responded: “You are mistaken. When the ׳יוד׳ is missing, it’s pronounced המן.”
