As a רבי walked in to the בית המדרש, he saw a תלמיד sleeping on his open גמרא.  The רבי remarked:  “We find in yesterday’s דף of the גמרא two conflicting גירסאות with respect to night.  In one place the גמרא says ‘לא נברא הלילה אלא ללימוד.’  In another place it says ‘לא נברא הלילה אלא לשינה.’   This תלמיד apparently wants to be יוצא both גירסאות and to be מקיים them at the same time.”
