Because of the danger of attacks by גויים on x-mas eve, known as ‘ניטל נכט,’ there was a תקנה that people not go to the בית מדרש to learn תורה.  Once, on ניטל night, as a תלמיד חכם was learning תורה, some בחורים approached him and asked why the תקנה wasn’t for two nights because of ספיקא דיומא, as it is for other חגים.  The תלמיד חכם responded that it wasn’t necessary because it happens ממילא.  “It’s a מקרא מפורש,” he said, “אם תעזבנה יום, יומיים תעזבך.”
