In Parshat תצוה, the Torah tells us ונשא אהרן את עון הקדשים.  The רב of Brisk, יוסף רב, asked: why did אהרן do this?  It’s the obligation of all to maintain משמרת הקודש.  He answered that בעלי-בתים are merely שומרי חינם, while a כהן גדול – as well as a רב – is a שומר שכר, since he receives מתנות קדושים.
