A poor מגיד came to town to speak to the קהל and collect money to feed his family. But he was largely ignored and no one invited him for a meal. Sighing, the מגיד commented: “It’s customary that after the מגיד says his דברי תורה, people say קדיש. However, at the פסח סדר, we say קדש before מגיד. Why? Because on the סדר night the מגיד takes its place at the שולחן עורך with plenty of food. But on the other days of the year, when the מגיד goes hungry, he’s an עני חשוב כמת and that’s why קדיש is said after him.”
