Two men came before רבי אביש שפירא, the רב of Humna, to settle a dispute. “רבי,” said one, “we had an argument and he struck me in the face בכפו, with his palm.” After hearing out the other man, he ordered him to pay ten gold pieces to the plaintiff. “Why ten?” he asked. The רבי responded: הלא” מקרא מפורש הוא: ׳כף אחת – עשרה זהב.’”
