A למדן said: “I always wondered why קורח was punished with such an odd punishment – to be swallowed up by the earth. It seems to me that the reason was because with his immense wealth, קורח was naturally concerned where to hide it. His advisors suggested that he follow דברי חז״ל, who said in מסכת פסחים that כספים אין להם שמירה אלא בקרקע. But not believing fully in the words of חז״ל, his mind was not at ease. So they advised him to join his money in the earth, where he fill forever be able to guard it.”
